Method
- In a large bowl, beat the baking spread and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.
- Fold in the flour to make a smooth but sticky dough.
- Divide the dough evenly between three bowls. Dye each dough a different colour using the gel food colourings and mix until the colour is even.
- Cover each bowl and place them in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to chill.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C/160°C fan/gas 4 and line a large baking tray with baking paper
- Scoop up roughly half a teaspoon of each colour dough and use another spoon to slide it onto the baking tray. Don’t worry if the colours mix a little, it will add to the spooky effect! Repeat until all the dough is used up, making 12 mounds of multicoloured dough. Remember to leave 2 inches of space between each so the cookies have room to spread out.
- Bake for 10 minutes or until the cookies are set around the outside but still soft in the middle.
- While they’re still warm, press three Milkybar® buttons into the top of each cookie (one large and two small).
- Top each button with a Smarties® and leave to cool. The heat from the warm cookie will melt the chocolate button and stick to the Smarties®.
- Once cooled, use the black writing icing to draw pupils on the spooky Smarties® eyes!
Top Tips
Our Halloween cookies are quick and easy, but here are a few things to watch out for. For easy mixing, make sure your buttery baking spread is at room temperature. A little gel colouring goes a long way, so mix it well before adding more. Lastly, chilling the dough makes it easier to work with, and it helps the cookies spread evenly, so don’t skip this step!
