Step-by-Step Tutorial

You’re just a hop, skip and a jump away from a quick and easy Easter basket.

Step 1: Prepare your basket base.

You’re just a hop, skip and a jump away from a quick and easy Easter basket.

Choose your own chocolate basket for Easter vibe:

  • A classic woven Easter basket with a handle.
  • A recycled cardboard box that’s covered and lined with pastel paper.
  • A terracotta pot lined with straw.
  • Large mason jar or vase to see all the goodies.
  • A reusable Easter-themed tote bag.
  • Repurposed wooden box with spring-themed fabric or paper.

Step 2: Arrange chocolates for visual impact.

Pick and mix your chocolate line-up and don’t forget to find out the recipient's favourite treats! When arranging, aim for height and texture balance. Tall eggs or chocolates at the back, medium in the middle and small treats like a Smarties® Bunny or Mini Egg packs in the front. For a simple bake that combines a homemade touch, Milkybar® Mini Eggs and cuteness overload, try our Milkybar® Bird’s Nest Cookies, secured inside a little cake box or tin, or stacked in a cylinder and wrapped in fresh tissue paper!

Step 3: Add decorative chicks and paper flowers.

Get creative and cute with our KitKat® Bunnies, paper bunnies, cute chick stickers, paper flowers or Easter themed party flair. Small accents keep things whimsical and fun while adding a splash of colour. For extra Easter bunny bonus points, download an easy origami rabbit tutorial, fold a bunny and tuck it among the treats as a surprise.

Step 4: Secure with ribbons and wrap (optional).

First impressions are everything so wrap your basket for maximum Easter vibes! Use layers to create a bold first impression or keep it simple with soft, pastel colours. Finish with a bow or ribbons and curl the ends with pair of scissors.

Step 5: Personalise for gifting or display.

Bounce your Easter basket up a few notches with a handwritten note or stash a few Easter jokes or inspirational quotes in plastic eggs, like festive fortune cookies! For an inviting centrepiece display, scatter a few colourful Smarties® Mini Eggs around the base of the basket for visitors to enjoy. For an extra crafty touch, turn the display into an activity for the kids to do (under supervision!) – read our Easter Egg Colouring Tutorial for some creative ideas.

Easter Basket Tips and Variations

Storage and Presentation Ideas

Chocolate doesn’t like heat and humidity so store your Easter basket at room temperature and not too close to the fireplace! If you’re making baskets for a festive display, choose a central point in the house or home to show them off. If you have multiple baskets, a stack of books is great for adding height to your display. Complement the baskets with a vase of spring flowers and your Easter table will be bounding with festive fun!
